SKOUNTZOU MARIA

Skountzou Maria is a psychologist, who is based in Patra. She holds a degree in applied psychology from the University of Durham, Great Britain, and has completed her postgraduate studies in health psychology at the University of Lancashire, Great Britain.

She has been trained, for five years, in cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy at the Psychiatric Clinic of the University of Athens - Aeginitio Hospital and at the Hellenic Center for Mental Health and Research in Patra. In the recent years, she works as an instructor of cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy in education institutions in Greece and Cyprus.

The psychologist is trained in the diagnosis and rehabilitation of learning difficulties - dyslexia and behavioral problems at the University of Athens and APHCA (the Association for the Psychosocial Health of Children and Adolescents). She is also trained in behavioral therapy for families with a member suffering from schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder or bipolar disorder.

She is an external scientific partner of the Hellenic Center for Mental Health and Research in Patra and a member of the Hellenic Society of Cognitive Psychotherapies.

She applies cognitive - behavioral psychotherapy to children, adolescents and adults, for problems such as anxiety, depression, phobias and panic attacks.

She treats relationship problems, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, test anxiety and insomnia.

The psychologist, with the use of valid psychometric tools, diagnoses learning difficulties - dyslexia and undertakes their treatment.

In addition, she provides counseling to parents, to deal with behavioral problems, such as hyperactivity, aggression, conduct disorder, but also to handle difficult situations (e.g. divorce, illness in the family, death of a parent).
